Summer Learning Series: Uniting the Virtual Workforce
Does distance still matter among the 21st century workforce? Is it really dead as many claim due to mobile devices and collaboration tools? The answer is no. This is a myth. To simply believe the hype, that collaboration technology creates more innovation, more productivity, a happier workforce, etc. is simply short sighted and most executives can see evidence that it’s just not so.
Karen Sobel Lojeski, Ph.D. coined the term “Virtual Distance” to describe a measurable and very real phenomenon building in our electronic age. Virtual Distance refers to a quantifiable psychological distance that when left unchecked, can create havoc with performance, innovation, leader effectiveness and other key success factors companies care
about. Karen presents empirical data about these perceptual shifts and demonstrates proven “how tos” on ways to improve results and overall well-being throughout the virtual workforce.
This session will cover:
- The major challenges and obstacles to creating and maintaining a high-performing virtual workforce
- How to measure Virtual Distance and its impact on performance, innovation and other important outcomes
- How to map Virtual Distance so that specific plans can be put in place to reduce its effects and improve productivity
- How to improve leader effectiveness by implementing training and coaching on Virtual Distance management skills
