Description:
Smaller companies, or companies just embarking on the e-Learning journey, often do not have the money or expertise to purchase large-scale learning management systems. With a number of e-Learning assets, but no budget to buy a hosted solution and no organized way to deliver to a dispersed workforce, we at Archstone had to work with what was available to us. After experimenting with SharePoint to push information to on-site employees, our National Training team created a portal to host our e Learning courses using only the instance of SharePoint available to us – there were no third-party applications to transform SharePoint into a LMS. The solution we constructed is very low-tech and easy. Any learning department with access to SharePoint can recreate this budget-neutral solution for delivering content.
Participants in this session will see a live demo of the Learning Portal Archstone created. You’ll get some easy-to-implement ideas for using SharePoint to deliver e-Learning content, which makes for a very budget friendly solution. You’ll learn how they only paid a third-party site to host and stream videos, approximately $250 annually. The rest is just time and energy of the training team.
In this session, you will learn:
– One solution for distributing learner content
– A methodology for building the solution
– How to make page customizations to display e-Learning courses and video
– The drawbacks to the solution
Presenter: A 2nd generation Instructional Designer, Jamie Lewis started her L&D career taking help desk calls. An astute manager realized she spent more time explaining how to avoid making errors versus fixing errors and transferred Jamie to the training department where she found her calling. Ms. Lewis has extensive experience creating and delivering learning programs. She discovered eLearning while working with Accenture and has never looked back. Her move to Archstone has exercised her creativity in approaches to course delivery – she is pleased to share this very cost effective tool with us.
