We often see training as an educational event for internal staff or skills development.  But training presents opportunities beyond simple instruction.

You can use training—especially online training—to reach out to those completely outside the bounds of your immediate organization.

  • Training can further your organization’s mission.
  • It can engage potential customers.
  • And, it can equip channel partners to be ambassadors for your brand.

In this webinar, E-learning Symposium speaker, Dr. Kevin Gumienny shows online training can be a way to reach out to your customers, channel partners or your constituents in a way that furthers your mission.

In this 60-minute webinar, E-Learning Symposium speaker, Dr. Kevin Gumienny,  takes a close look at using online training to reach new audiences, sharing lessons learned from (sometimes painful) experience.

You’ll learn:

  • When and why training can be more effective than other outreach methods
  • How health, IT, and other businesses and organizations use online training to reach broad audiences
  • Factors to consider when using training as outreach for your organization

Register to join Dr. Gumienny as he discusses the opportunities and challenges, as well as benefits and dangers that come from using training as outreach.

Then, share with your colleagues looking for innovative ways to reach broad audiences.

Using Outreach Training to Reach Your Market

Outreach TrainingModern digital culture can be a sensory overload. This barrage is one of the challenges faced by you in trying to get your customer’s attention. Microassist’s Dr. Kevin Gumienny, in his recent webinar, talked about how online training can be a powerful tool to help you cut through the clutter and make meaningful connections with your audience. I wanted to take this opportunity to summarize Kevin’s webinar and throw in a few thoughts of my own.

To see how online training can help, let’s take a look at the sensory overload problem from an audience member’s perspective. At any given moment, your audience is swamped with incoming requests for attention–email, Slack, Facebook, Twitter, ads on TV, ads in their web-browser, etc. Each piece is competing for their time and attention. They have to pick and choose what they want to pay attention to, or risk being overwhelmed by the wealth of offerings.

5FF: Julie Dirksen, Blended Learning, ATD 2016, Dataviz and Audacity

Five Favorite Friday is a curated list of what we enjoyed, noted or thought about in the week just past.

  1. Favorite Learning and Development Comic: Julie Dirksen’s webcomic was published in September of 2009. It captures the issue on how we sometimes overload our learners succinctly and in a fun and engaging way. Approximately seven years later, I still remember it and use it with my team—talk about staying power. You can see the rest of the webcomics at Julie’s blog Usable Learning as well. Want to learn a bit more about instructional design? Check out Julie’s book Design for How People Learn (Voices That Matter)..
  2. Favorite Tweet:

An interesting comparison of the same course taught 3 different ways… https://t.co/cKXAtcNgFo

  3. Favorite Conference: ATD 2016, the biggest learning and performance event of the year, was held May 22–25 in Denver Colorado. The speaker lineup was amazing as usual. Keynotes included Simon Sinek (author of Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action), Brené Brown (author of three bestsellers as well as one of the top 5 Ted Talks The Power of Vulnerability) and Jeremy Gutsche (bestselling author of Better and Faster). Missed the conference? One of my favorite ways of catching up is following the twitter hashtag #ATD2016.   Of course, David Kelly is legendary for his curated conference backchannel posts
  4. Favorite Magazine Article: From one of our favorite sources, Harvard Business Review comes a great article on visualizing information—Visualizations That Really Work. The article discusses the difference between four types of visual communication: idea illustration, idea generation, visual discovery, and data visualization. This article is worth a study.
  5. Favorite Free Tool: Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sound—perfect for editing narration for our learning modules.
